Due to extremely high temperatures, The Works glass studio is closed to
the public in July and August. The studio will reopen to the public
September 7, 2010 with new glass blowing demonstrations and classes. See
the complete schedule of Fall Glass Classes below.
The Works has a variety of hands-on glassblowing, fused glass and pottery classes scheduled
this fall for kids and adults of all ages! Glass Blowing Classes focus on the art of glassblowing and students learn basic techniques while creating glass ornaments. Fused Glass Classes focus on fusing glass pieces to create something beautiful such as a piece of jewelry, plate, sun catcher or picture frame. During Pottery Painting Classes, participants choose from a variety of pieces then grab a paint brush and let their creativity flow!

FALL GLASS & POTTERY CLASS SCHEDULE: - October 9: Glass Sun Catcher or Picture Frame - Create a small or large glass sun catcher or a picture frame (sizes: 4" x 6" or 5" x 7") from various shapes, sizes and colors of glass. Use flat glass, stringers and millifiori mixes to create your own glass masterpiece! Your final design is then fired in a kiln to melt all the pieces and parts into a beautiful, completed project.

5" x 7" Frame - $20 Members, $23 Non-Members - October 9: Custom Blown Glass Ornaments & Pumpkins - Stop in to enjoy this open studio glass studio activity! Participants purchase a ticket for the number of blown glass ornaments and/or pumpkins they wish to purchase. Then, watch as a professional glass blower creates your personal piece of glass art in front of your eyes! This is a fascinating and educational glass demonstration and the best part is, the final product is yours to take home!

- Ages: 11+ (minors must be accompanied by an adult)
- Cost: Ornament - $22 Members, $25 Non-Members
Pumpkin - $35 Members, $40 Non-Members - October 20: Jewelry Fusing - Let your imagination flow as you make your own custom jewelry! Work with flat glass, stringers and millifiori to craft unique pieces of jewelry. Participants may create up to 4 jewelry pieces.

- Ages: 10+
- Cost: $30 Members, $35 Non-Members
- Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 3 & Nov. 10: Glassblowing I (4 -day / 12 hour class) - Learn traditional glassblowing techniques including; studio safety, proper use of glass tools, how to gather molten glass from the furnace and how to create simple blown glass shapes.

- October 23: Pottery Painting Open Studio - Stop by the studio and select a piece of pottery to paint and let your inner artist come alive! Take as much, or as little, time as you need. With dozens of colors to choose from, your pottery will be a one of a kind masterpiece. After painting, pottery will be fired and a clear glaze added giving your piece a shiny finish. Final pottery pieces will be ready to pick-up 5-7 days following class date.

- November 6: Fused Glass Plate - Easy to make and fun to create! Sprinkle, scatter and position beautiful pieces of colored flat glass, stringers, confetti and
millifiori to design unique effects. The final plate design will then be fused into a solid disk and placed into a mold. Participants may pick-up the final project about a week after the class.

- November 10: Jewelry Fusing - Let your imagination flow as you make your own custom jewelry! Work with flat glass, stringers and millifiori to craft unique pieces of jewelry. Participants may create up to 4 jewelry pieces.

- November 13: Glass Paperweight - A glass instructor will give participants a demonstration on how to gather glass, shape it and then apply color to create a beautiful paperweight. This is a great class to learn the basics of glass working techniques and is perfect for beginners interested in this art form. After learning, participants will then get hands-on by creating their own one-of-a-kind design encased in a clear molten glass and form it into a paperweight shape.
